The increasing demand for plastic-free packaging solutions is leading to innovations and conversions in companies. Huhtamaki is now increasing the production of smooth moulded fibre packaging in Europe and especially in Germany. Plastic is to be replaced by fibre at the Alf site.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The company's site in Alf, Germany, is shifting its focus from plastics to smooth moulded fibre (SMF) products to meet the growing demand for plastic-free alternatives for food packaging. By the year More than 2,000 tonnes of plastic to be replaced by fibres in 2022<\/strong>. The modern automated production facility will have the capacity to produce up to 3.5 billion fibre products per year. This is the first large-scale production facility of its kind in Europe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A sustainable alternative<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The smooth, moulded fibre products from Huhtamaki<\/a> are already being used by catering companies worldwide. The production plant in Alf currently supplies Fibre lids for a wide range of applications and customised products for foodservice and FMCG brands<\/strong>including a range of hot, cold and deep-freeze applications.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div><\/div>

In contrast to polypropylene products, which are made from fossil fuels, smooth moulded fibre products are renewable, compostable and can be recycled.<\/strong> become. They are a sustainable alternative to similar plastic products. In addition, the wood fibres used to produce bespoke and generic designs come from certified, sustainably managed European forests. The products manufactured in Alf are certified for home composting (OK certification) and industrial composting (EN13432 standards).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
