They are wrong, as scientific studies show. This is the result of a recently presented <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sevensenders.com\/de\/nachhaltigkeit-im-ecommerce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study<\/a> by Seven Senders on sustainability in online retail. It summarises the most important research findings on the topic, supplemented by<strong> a recent survey of consumers in seven European countries<\/strong> and bundles them into a wealth of valuable practical tips and best practices for e-tailers.<\/p><p>In Generation Z, which includes young people between 18 and 24, <strong>nine out of ten believe that every company should assume environmental responsibility.<\/strong> At the same time, 85 per cent of European companies are already interested in reducing their emissions. It accounts for between 35 and 65 per cent of the total environmental impact and therefore offers the greatest leverage for improvement, alongside packaging and returns management.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-exad-particle-enable=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-c18b447 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default exad-parallax-effect-no exad-background-color-change-no exad-glass-effect-no exad-sticky-section-no\" data-id=\"c18b447\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6531090 exad-glass-effect-no exad-sticky-section-no\" data-id=\"6531090\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-baff9df exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"baff9df\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Sustainability is (not) a topic for the future<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-exad-particle-enable=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ee3c59a elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default exad-parallax-effect-no exad-background-color-change-no exad-glass-effect-no exad-sticky-section-no\" data-id=\"ee3c59a\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e22dbe9 exad-glass-effect-no exad-sticky-section-no\" data-id=\"e22dbe9\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-97a8f4e exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"97a8f4e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The study shows: With the growing environmental awareness of online shoppers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, the willingness to shop online has also risen sharply recently, <strong>spend more money on sustainable delivery options<\/strong>, from 54 per cent in 2021 to 70 per cent this year.<\/p><p>This does not automatically mean that the option is actually used at checkout. However, best practices in the Seven Senders study show that good user guidance and information about the environmental impact of different shipping solutions contribute to this, <strong>that sustainable options are accepted up to four times more frequently<\/strong>.<\/p><p>In general, the study makes clear, <strong>online retail is dependent on the cooperation of its customers to achieve its climate targets:<\/strong> A reduction in the returns rate, which causes avoidable environmental pollution, or greater acceptance of delivery to out-of-home collection points create quick wins for the climate that every e-tailer can only achieve together with its customers - and thus save tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0can save.<\/p><p>Seven Senders even quantifies exactly how much in a DEKRA-certified calculation model. <strong>delivery to an out-of-home collection point<\/strong> 300 g less CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0per package.<\/p><p>Nevertheless, the path to a <a href=\"https:\/\/packaging-journal.de\/tag\/=e-commerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Online trading<\/a>, which no longer produces emissions, still has a long way to go - and <strong>the realisation of CO<sub>2<\/sub>-neutral logistics solutions, such as the use of e-trucks, will still take years<\/strong>. However, climate protection needs effective solutions quickly, and offsetting unavoidable CO<sub>2<\/sub>emissions as a \u201egolden bridge\u201c to a low-emission or even emission-free future in which appropriate measures can be implemented and take effect.<\/p><p>The study also shows that such a strategy can also be a competitive advantage and growth driver for responsible e-tailers. <strong>the economies of scale of e-commerce logistics and differing consumer habits in the various European markets<\/strong> even expansion can have a positive effect on the carbon footprint.<\/p><blockquote><p>\u201eHardly any other industry is developing as dynamically as online retail, which knows more about disruption than almost any other. One of its strengths is responding to consumer wishes at an early stage and implementing them quickly and efficiently. E-tailers can once again capitalise on the intense debate surrounding environmental and climate protection and more sustainable consumption to grow and gain strength.\u201c<\/p><p><strong>Thomas
