Fachpack has closed its doors after three days. \u201eFinally a normal trade fair feeling again!\u201c was the tenor of the exhibitors and visitors at the fair. Around 32,000 trade visitors, one in three of them from abroad, took the opportunity to find out about the latest trends and innovations at the stands of the 1,154 exhibitors and to discuss pressing packaging issues with experts. <\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

According to organiser N\u00fcrnbergMesse, this year's main theme \u201eTransition In Packaging\u201c struck a chord with the times. \u201eEven though the overall situation is not easy for many companies at the moment, the European packaging industry was extremely innovative and solution-orientated at Fachpack,\u201c summarises Heike Slotta, Executive Director Exhibition, N\u00fcrnbergMesse. Powtech, which took place at the same time, was also exciting for the Fachpack audience:<\/strong> Just under a quarter stated that they were interested in the trade fair programme of the trade fair for mechanical process engineering and analytics. Fachpack will take a regular break in 2023 and will not take place again until 2024.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201eTrade fairs are melting points for new ideas, this is where the future becomes tangible. Of course, our immediate future seems anything but rosy as a result of the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, rising energy costs and inflation. But this is precisely why we need to talk about how we can shape change. And here we need to use the jargon of the consumer goods industry: Change has become a \u201efast mover\u201c since sustainability and digitalisation have picked up speed and consumer expectations and framework conditions are constantly changing.\u201c<\/p>

The Specialist pack<\/a> offered a comprehensive range of products and services along the packaging process chain: from packaging materials and packaging machines to packaging printing and finishing, logistics systems and services. The visitors travelled from 89, mainly European, countries. They came to Germany mainly from Austria, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, France, Turkey and Slovenia<\/strong> to Nuremberg. Compared to previous events, the international share rose to around 32 per cent (2021: 29 per cent).<\/p>

Over 90 per cent of trade visitors were (very) satisfied with the range of products on offer in the exhibition halls, as the results of a visitor survey conducted by an independent institute show. 85 per cent of trade visitors stated that they were involved in their company's purchasing and procurement decisions.<\/strong> More than half of them have a managerial position. The visitors came primarily from the food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and medicine, cosmetics, chemicals, electronics, automotive, retail, packaging and logistics sectors.<\/p>

On the first day of Fachpack, the German Packaging Institute (dvi) announced the winners of the Gold Awards at this year's German Packaging Awards. The six best innovations of 2022<\/strong> come from the categories of cost-effectiveness, sustainability, digitalisation, packaging machines and young talent. In addition, 32 innovative solutions were honoured that had already received a German Packaging Award in August.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Sales growth for packaging manufacturers<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Packaging manufacturers were able to increase production and turnover in 2021. This is shown by the latest figures from the Joint Committee of German Packaging Manufacturers (GADV). In terms of production volume Packaging made of paper, cardboard and paperboard accounts for the largest share<\/strong>, where Plastic packaging has the highest production value<\/strong> achieved.<\/p>

Around 19.6 million tonnes of packaging materials were produced in 2021, an increase of 4.8 per cent. The production value also increased significantly by 10.9 per cent to around EUR 35.8 billion in 2021<\/strong>. As in previous years, plastic packaging generated the largest share of production value with a share of around 44 per cent, while packaging made of paper, cardboard and paperboard was the largest packaging fraction in terms of volume at around 49 per cent.<\/p>

The packaging machinery industry, which is strong in exports, is also currently being held back by production-related and global economic impairments and crises. Due to the export volume achieved in the first half of the year combined with a good order backlog Nevertheless, a low increase in production is expected for 2022<\/strong>. According to the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association, the production volume for packaging machines rose by 4.6 per cent to EUR 7 billion in 2021.<\/p>

Exports by around 300 manufacturers increased to \u20ac5.922 billion in 2021 (previous year: \u20ac5.673 billion), which is only slightly below the highest volume achieved before the Covid pandemic. The export value corresponds to 84 per cent of the production volume.<\/strong> The strongest customers for German packaging machines are traditionally the EU countries, followed by North America and Asia. In terms of customer countries, the USA is well ahead of China, France and Poland. Global foreign trade in packaging machinery totals almost 22 billion euros; the highly innovative German industry has held the top position here for years, with a share of around 26 per cent, ahead of Italy.<\/p>
