The automation experts from OMRON<\/a> now have the new 3D vision sensors from the FH-SMD family<\/a> presented. This technology for detecting randomly arranged parts in the bulk material<\/strong> can be mounted on the robot arm and enables space-saving installation for assembly, inspection and pick & place tasks that are difficult to realise with conventional robots. At the same time, companies can use this solution to organise picking processes more productively and effectively.<\/p>

Due to the increasing shortage of skilled labour, manufacturers are increasingly having to automate processes that could previously only be carried out by experienced experts. One example is bin picking, i.e. selection and order picking. The new 3D vision sensor from the FH-SMD series is small and lightweight and can be easily mounted on a robot arm.<\/strong> No special assembly tools are required, saving users space and time. The sensor can be moved and repositioned to change viewing directions to better recognise parts. This reduces the effects of blind spots and improves accuracy.<\/p>

In addition, the newly developed 3D measurement technology Recognise parts regardless of shape and location in around 0.4 seconds<\/strong>. This enables uncomplicated automation of processes in the assembly of large and bulky parts, for example in automotive production.<\/p>
