Overall, the aluminium screw cap only accounts for 2 percent of the climate impact of a bottle of wine.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-828cdfc exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"828cdfc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p>The assessment, which is based on the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint), was carried out by Quantis in 2022 on behalf of the Aluminium Closures Group (ACG). The study shows that the aluminium screw cap only accounts for 2 percent of the climate impact of a bottle of wine, and investigates beyond that, <strong>how this impact can be further reduced<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-731dec7 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"731dec7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Reduced climate impact of the entire bottle<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27485b2 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"27485b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p>It is generally recognised that the recycling of aluminium after its use has a positive impact on the environmental balance of the closure, as bonus points are included in the calculation of the environmental balance for the avoided production of primary metal. For the <strong>Recycling aluminium requires around 95 per cent less energy than primary production.<\/strong> needed. In this context, it should be noted that aluminium screw caps can be easily sorted and recycled, regardless of whether they are collected together with glass or other lightweight aluminium packaging.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e001051 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e001051\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><blockquote><p>\u201eSmall things can make a big difference. At ACG, we remain committed to making a positive contribution to mitigating climate change. Although the aluminium screw cap does not make a significant contribution to the footprint of a wine bottle, the study has explored ways in which the environmental impact of the closure can be further reduced.\u201c<\/p><p><strong>Jean-Paul Duquet<\/strong>, Director of Sustainability at ACG<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1ca8d39 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1ca8d39\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p>Another parameter that was examined as part of the assessment is the weight of aluminium screw caps. If the amount of aluminium used in the closure is reduced by 15 percent (from 4.2 to 3.6 grams), the climate impact is reduced by 14 percent. The climate impact of the entire wine bottle is reduced accordingly by 0.3 per cent.<\/p><p>In addition, aluminium screw caps make a further contribution to minimising the ecological footprint of bottled wine by <strong>Reduce unintentional leakage of the wine<\/strong>. From a climate perspective, wine losses at consumer level have a major influence on the overall impact of the wine life cycle assessment. An average wine loss rate of 5 per cent was taken into account for the study (according to the PEFCR for wine, regardless of the type of closure).<\/p><p><em>Source:\u00a0<\/em><a
