For the 32nd time, decision-makers and project managers from industry, science and research met in Dresden for the traditional end-of-year event for the packaging industry. From the very beginning, the Dresden Packaging Conference has seen itself as a network meeting point and dialogue platform for all players: for brands, retailers and disposal companies as well as for students and representatives of start-ups.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After two years, we were finally able to return to Partners, colleagues and competitors to engage in direct dialogue, exchange positions<\/strong> and bring yourself up to date. Unfortunately, the 30th and 31st editions could \"only\" be organised digitally.<\/p>

On 1 December 2022, the first day of the event, around 200 interested participants followed Comprehensive and highly individualised developments and innovative approaches<\/strong> around the topic of the event \"Ideas and possibilities for sustainable and recyclable packaging\".<\/p>

Greenwashing under the microscope<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For example, we scrutinised the importance of Design for recycling in companies and the sensible, honest and responsible categorisation of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle<\/strong> into the processes, always taking into account the current access and delivery options for raw materials and products. The presentations and discussion also focussed on the Demand for mono-materials thematised, via open-technology and recyclable sorting technologies<\/strong> The company will provide information on the use of tracers, for example, and present the potential of newly developed software for a better overview of recycling.<\/p>

Very interesting was the Position and categorisation of the new EU regulation on greenwashing<\/strong>What advertising restrictions on packaging could the industry face in the future? What are our general views on \"sustainable\", \"bio-based\", \"environmentally friendly\", \"CO2<\/sub>-neutral\", \"compostable\" and CO.?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Professionals and young talent come together<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Special attention was also paid to the Ideas workshop on substitution, where the current status of alternative raw materials is discussed.<\/strong> such as corn grits as a substitute for polystyrene, cellulose fibres for food packaging and brown algae-based packaging films or fibre castings, and the possibilities for their use in practice were presented and actively discussed.<\/p>

Traditionally, the Dresden Packaging Conference<\/a> also the Opportunity for initial contact between packaging professionals and the next generation of students<\/strong>. Companies are already finding their employees of tomorrow today. This was diligently promoted on site. The students from packaging-related degree programmes from Leipzig, Berlin, Stuttgart and Dresden had and still have a unique opportunity to make the best contacts and get involved at an early stage.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The first day of the event was packed, informative, lively, in-depth and certainly sent every participant off into the evening with new ideas and insights. Day 2 will also be about Reusable and deposit systems and the packaging industry's overall responsibility for climate protection<\/strong> go: \"Sustainability in the packaging industry - the way to the goal!\"<\/p>
