To take a further step towards the energy transition, Beumer decided to build a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Beckum plant. The company can now obtain 20 per cent of its energy from green electricity at the site.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201eAt our main site in Beckum, we want to reduce CO2<\/sub>-footprint in the long term. And of course it is attractive for a company that requires a lot of energy to produce its own electricity from sunlight.\u201c<\/p>

In 2020, those responsible therefore decided to install a photovoltaic system on the roof of the company building on Oelder Stra\u00dfe. The planning work began in October 2021. Since the summer, the solar cells have been converting sunlight into electricity.<\/strong> um.<\/p>

\u201eThe PV system with an installed capacity of 750 kilowatt peak can cover the equivalent electricity needs of 200 households. We can cover around 20 per cent of our total annual energy requirements here on site with self-generated green electricity.\u201c<\/p>

This is supported by a Latest-generation energy storage system and an intelligent measurement and control concept<\/strong>. The result is impressive: Compared to 2020, the machine factory saves almost 280 tonnes of CO2<\/sub> in. One tonne of CO2<\/sub> is roughly equivalent to driving just under 5,000 kilometres with a mid-range petrol engine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201eThe lower operating costs also increase our competitiveness,\u201c explains Dr Kilian Neubert. \u201eWe also have the opportunity to expand the entire system in Beckum.\u201c The company is also planning to extend this to other locations within the Group<\/strong>. A comparable photovoltaic system has also been installed at the site in India.<\/p>
