CCL Label<\/a> has announced an innovation that was developed in-house at its Austrian site in V\u00f6lkermarkt. The Stretch Sleeve represents the currently the thinnest stretch sleeve available on the market<\/strong> The sleeve has a thickness of 30 microns. It was specially developed for 1-litre returnable PET bottles, which are typically used in the German mineral water market.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201eThis extremely thin stretch sleeve was developed with sustainability in mind. At 30 microns, the sleeve is much thinner than the \u201astandard\u2018 45 micron sleeves that are often used. This contributes to efficiency on the material side. Much less raw material is needed to produce this sleeve, which helps to reduce the carbon footprint of the product. We have calculated that beverage brands can save up to 32 tonnes of plastic material per 100 million sleeves by switching from 45 to 30 microns - roughly equivalent to the weight of over 5 adult African elephants.\u201c<\/p>

The stretch sleeve technology itself has several sustainability benefits. They are made from Mono-PE (polyethylene), which has a high degree of elasticity<\/strong> has. This means that no glue or heat is required to attach the sleeve to the bottle or other container - it attaches itself and stays in place thanks to its own elasticity<\/strong>. It is also possible to integrate different proportions of recycled material from various sources into the stretch sleeves - including post-consumer recyclate (PCR).<\/p>

\u201eStretch sleeves are a popular decoration technology for the German mineral water industry, which has traditionally established a returnable system. Typically, 1-litre returnable bottles are made from rigid PET and increasingly from recycled PET - which in itself is a very sustainable system. Now the bottle can have an even smaller environmental footprint by combining it with the super-thin stretch sleeves we have just introduced.\u201c<\/p>
