After nine months of construction and a joint investment of 7.5 million euros, the joint venture between ALPLA, Ecohelp and UPT has opened a PET recycling plant in Romania. The plant in Targu Mures produces 18,000 tonnes of recyclate per year from material collected from households.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Around 18,000 tonnes of post-consumer recycled PET (rPET) per year: packaging and recycling specialist ALPLA<\/a>Ecohelp SRL (Romania) and United Polymer Trading AG (Switzerland) start production at the joint recycling plant in Targu Mures. The three companies invested around 7.5 million euros in the construction and equipment of the plant on the neighbouring site of Ecohelp's existing location in Targu Mures. Now the first Extrusion line for the production of high-quality rPET pellets from PET flakes<\/strong> put into operation. Expansion potential has already been planned: The plant offers space for a second extrusion line, i.e. for doubling capacity. The joint venture partners will host the official opening ceremony on 4 May 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Founded in autumn 2021, the Joint venture bundles the expertise of the three companies involved<\/strong>. ALPLA contributes its many years of expertise as an international recycling specialist and packaging manufacturer, while United Polymer Trading (UPT) has an extensive distribution network for plastics and recycled materials. The local company Ecohelp supplies the raw material in the form of processed PET flakes based on PET bottles from household collections. The resulting rPET granulate in food quality is then used as the starting material for new preforms and bottles<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/p>

ALPLA is investing 50 million euros annually in the further expansion of its recycling activities until 2025. With its measures to produce high-quality recycled materials, the company is accelerating the Closing material cycles in as many regions of the world as possible<\/strong>. In total, the annual production capacity of recycling companies and cooperations worldwide amounts to around 203,000 tonnes for rPET and 74,000 tonnes for rHDPE.<\/p>
