As part of the EU requirement for tethered caps, Gerolsteiner is now also leaving the cap on its mineral water bottles. The new caps also require less material than the previous ones.<\/strong><\/p>

In future, the caps of non-returnable PET bottles must remain firmly attached to the bottle even after opening, in accordance with EU regulations, in order to reliably ensure that the bottle and cap are recycled together. Gerolsteiner will start using tethered caps from March 2023.<\/strong> From July next year, the new cap will be mandatory for all non-returnable PET bottles.<\/p>

Gerolsteiner intends to complete the process of switching to the new caps by the end of the first quarter of 2024. The Gerolsteiner 1.5-litre non-returnable PET bottle will be the first to be successively fitted with tethered caps. Drinks in 1.0-litre and 0.75-litre non-returnable PET containers will follow at the end of 2023. The Gerolsteiner non-returnable PET range will be offered with both the previous caps and the new lids for a longer transitional period.<\/strong> Gerolsteiner Brunnen plans to have completely switched over to the new closures by the end of March 2024.<\/p>

The height of the lids is lower than that of the previously used closure, which, according to the company, results in material savings of 0.05 g or 0.33 g per closure, depending on the type. The weight saving in the thread area reduces the material requirement by 0.8 or 1.3 g depending on the preform. Both contribute to a further improvement in the eco-balance of the bottles.<\/strong><\/p>

The necessary drinking comfort is also taken care of: a reduced diameter of the neck ring increases the opening angle of the closure to 160 to 180 degrees. In this way, the cap neither hinders pouring nor drinking from the bottle.<\/strong> Gerolsteiner uses a seal on the bottle labels to inform consumers about the new \"stay-there lids\". In addition, a dedicated landing page is to be created on the topic, which will be linked via a QR code on the label.<\/p>
