Sonoco has joined the European Paper Packaging Alliance (EPPA). This membership is intended to support Sonoco's packaging initiatives in Europe, in particular its commitment to the European Commission's proposed regulation on packaging and packaging waste. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The EPPA, founded in 2020 and headquartered (since January 2023) in Brussels, is a non-profit association for food and food service packaging. In search of Solutions to improve the recyclability of food packaging<\/strong> without jeopardising health and safety, it works closely with political decision-makers.<\/p>

The EPPA<\/a> also acts as the industry's mouthpiece for its eleven members. It emphasises the advantages of fibre-based packaging with functional coatings and barrier properties - such as longer shelf life and greater food safety.\u00a0Sonoco manufactures a variety of paper containers, some with barrier properties.<\/strong> This is precisely the type of packaging that the EPPA is in favour of.<\/p>

Sonoco, together with other members of the EPPA Promote value creation through recycling and the use of fibre-based packaging with a polyethylene coating<\/strong>.<\/p>

\u201eOur customers will benefit from our membership because it will enable even more players to become aware of the advantages of fibre-based packaging with a polyethylene coating. The EPPA also helps to define better legislation for this type of packaging.\u201c<\/p>

In recent years, Sonoco has continuously improved its sustainability efforts. In August 2022, the company joined the EUROPEN (European Organisation for Packaging and the Environment<\/strong>; European Organisation for Packaging and the Environment) and in May 2021 to INCPEN (Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment<\/strong>; Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment).<\/p>
