Walki and Rovema have been working on packaging for snacks that is easier to open. The pouch concept uses laser perforation and a special recipe to enable the pouches to be torn open in a controlled manner.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Snacks such as sugared nuts, chocolate or dried fruit are usually packaged in bags. As the material is usually very tear-resistant, there is a risk that the bag has to be opened with too much force, which increases the risk of it tearing open completely. Walki is now introducing a New pouch concept for easy-to-open packaging in the fast-growing snack segment<\/strong> in.<\/p>

\u201eWe have set ourselves the goal of creating a to develop a bag that the consumer can open easily and in a controlled manner<\/strong>\u201e, explains Andreas Rothschink, Head of Product Development and Technical Service in the Consumer Packaging division at Walki Group<\/a>. Laser and special formulations of the PE films enable controlled tearing<\/strong>. The pouch is made from a laminate of MDO PE film and a newly developed LDPE-based film.<\/p>

The laser perforation in the centre of the side gusset of the bag is the starting point for opening. Through the targeted weakening of the laminate, the material is thin enough to prevent controlled tearing of the bag.<\/strong> but still thick enough to securely protect the snacks inside. If you open the bag in the centre, the opening starts to tear in both directions until it reaches the transverse cross seams, which continue to keep the bag stable.<\/p>

\u201eYou can open the bag completely without destroying the mould. The large opening makes it easy to remove the snacks from the bag,\u201c explains Rothschink. As the bag is made from the monomaterial PE, it can be easily recycled in the corresponding plastic stream<\/strong>. The bag was developed in close cooperation with the packaging machine manufacturer Rovema<\/a> developed.<\/p>
