In order to increase the proportion of reusable packaging and simplify return logistics, ReFrastructure is launching a pilot project together with the municipality of Haar and various reusable system providers. In addition to an information and activation campaign, reusable containers can be returned to all participating catering establishments.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With a The use of reusable packaging for food and beverages in the German catering industry is a niche market with a share of less than one per cent compared to disposable packaging<\/strong>, as the WWF makes clear in its study Mehrweg in der deutschen Gastronomie1 published in February of this year. In the opinion of the WWF, the necessary change in packaging requires above all a Standardised and uncomplicated return logistics<\/strong>, where the containers can be returned anywhere after use.\u00a0<\/p>

To ensure that convenience does not continue to win out over sustainability, ReFrastructure, together with the reusable system providers Recup<\/a>, reCircle<\/a> and Relevo, the municipality of Haar and the local catering trade Germany's first pilot project from July 2023<\/strong> in which citizens can return the reusable cups and trays from these providers to all participating catering establishments. As awareness of the benefits and necessity of reusable packaging is still very low among the population, this Action accompanied by an information and activation campaign<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

To ensure that this works easily in practice for everyone involved, the foundation is jointly developing together with its partners DPM (DieProduktMacher) and the Technical University of Munich a neutral digital infrastructure<\/strong>, which, in addition to cooperation between market participants, also enables the management of local dishwashing and distribution logistics in order to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible. The project is financially supported by the German Federal Environment Agency, the German Federal Environmental Foundation and private donors. Scientific support is provided by K\u00fchne Logistics University and the Wuppertal Institute. Other partners such as the German Reusable Association, Initiative Plastikfreie Stadt and the Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association are supporting the implementation.<\/p>

With the pilot project, ReFrastructure is not only pursuing the goal of subjecting the specially developed infrastructure to a field test, the The findings should also help to further promote the relevance of reusable systems for consumers at national level<\/strong> and make a sustainable contribution to climate protection. With this pilot project, all those involved have sent out an important signal in favour of the use of reusable solutions and environmental protection.<\/p>
