He wanted to build the world's first packaging machine and pioneered the packaging industry. With the first box erecting and gluing machine and packaging robots, he brought his company to international success. The industry is now mourning the loss of entrepreneur Gerhard Schubert, who died on 4 July 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Born on 16 July 1938 in Crailsheim, Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, Gerhard Schubert began his professional career at the age of 15 as a Mechanic at packaging manufacturer Strunck<\/strong>. After completing his apprenticeship, he initially worked there as a design engineer before moving to Kugler in Schw\u00e4bisch Hall. And he wanted more, as his son Ralf Schubert says:<\/p>

\u201eI think he just wanted a company. He wanted to make something successful.\u201c<\/p>

And so he began to work freelance alongside his job and eventually founded 1964 his own design office<\/strong>. This was followed in 1966 by Gerhard Schubert GmbH, with which he became successful in the packaging industry.<\/p>

The group is still a family business today and Gerhard Schubert developed the First shaft levelling and gluing machine (SKA) in his father's sculptor's studio<\/strong>. The first machine was used to package the world-famous gingerbread at the long-established Weiss company in Nuremberg.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201eIt all started with this box erecting and gluing machine and it became very well known afterwards. We built thousands of these machines and also erected boxes with hotmelt for the first time - he had a patent for this. That's how the company started. And Lebkuchen Weiss got one of the first SKAs, which is now in the packaging museum in Heidelberg.\u201c<\/p>

Then in 1972 came the Modular system for top-loading packaging machines<\/strong> was added - a complete success. Initially, the development was viewed with scepticism, but Gerhard Schubert had a lasting impact on the packaging industry. He thus laid the Foundation stone for the company's current high-tech machines<\/strong>. At interpack 1981, the group then presented the world's first packaging robot - a revolution for the packaging industry.<\/p>

\u201eI wanted to develop a machine that was built according to human principles: simple mechanics, high intelligence and the use of tools. So we built our machines accordingly.\u201c<\/p>

More control through less mechanics - Gerhard Schubert saw this as the Long-term success of packaging robots<\/strong>. His vision was to fully automate the packaging process. But in the 1990s, there was no software on the market that could fulfil the requirements of packaging machine construction. So Schubert decided to go for it, develop a control system yourself<\/strong>. His son Ralf Schubert also joined the company.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
