DS Smith has developed a sustainable and recyclable packaging solution together with Eat Happy, the supplier of freshly rolled sushi from the supermarket.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The shop-in-shop concept for daily freshly rolled sushi to go impresses with a sustainable and fully recyclable packaging solution that helps to reduce plastic waste and minimise waste. the increasing demand from retailers and consumers<\/strong> for more sustainable packaging. On the other hand, the new packaging solution also the EU regulation on the avoidance of single-use plastics<\/strong> account. According to DS Smith, the fresh food sector in particular still has some catching up to do and is therefore one of the strategic growth markets.<\/p>

The innovative packaging solution for Eat Happy is characterised by its material functionality and intuitive design. The sushi rolls are presented to customers in various sizes - from single portions to party platters - through a viewing window based on plant-based raw materials<\/strong> presented throughout.<\/p>

Both the tray and the lid of the packaging are made of corrugated cardboard and are therefore made from renewable raw materials. The packaging with a viewing window can be disposed of 100 per cent in waste paper or in the blue bin.<\/strong> New corrugated cardboard packaging can be produced from the recyclable packaging solution using the established recycling process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The New packaging is water and grease repellent<\/strong>. The selected materials protect the fresh sushi from external influences. This preserves the quality and flavour of the freshly rolled sushi creations. The texture has another advantage: soya sauce, ginger and wasabi can be added to the product in the packaging.<\/p>

\"<\/strong>We have invested heavily in the development and future use of our new packaging. On the one hand, we are responding to the increasing demand from our retail partners and customers for more environmentally friendly packaging. On the other hand, it also enables us as a company to make a contribution to protecting the climate and the environment. The move towards a high-quality, fully recyclable packaging solution made from natural, renewable resources is therefore particularly important to us. The consultation process with the DS Smith team was based on partnership and was goal-orientated. Together, we managed to overcome the major challenges that freshly rolled sushi presents us with.\u201c<\/p>

DS Smith offers an extensive product portfolio of sustainable packaging solutions for direct or indirect food contact for a wide variety of food types - whether fresh, chilled, frozen, fatty or other foods. The biggest challenge for us in this case was that freshly prepared sushi is a very complex product that comes into direct contact with the packaging during the refrigeration process in the counter.
