Thanks to their excellent barrier properties, aluminium coffee capsules protect the coffee powder from external influences such as oxygen, light and moisture. With 27 billion aluminium capsules filled worldwide in 2022<\/strong> However, the number of capsules in the waste stream continues to rise. This is increasing the pressure on brand owners to find new ways to make their packaging more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The ability to recycle the end product and keep it in the cycle is crucial - as is the implementation of sustainable production processes throughout the value chain.<\/p>

Actega, manufacturer of speciality coatings, printing inks, adhesives, sealants and compounds for the printing and packaging industry, has now introduced heat seal coatings that help to improve recyclability. The new ACTEseal Heat-sealing lacquers for the internal coating of aluminium coffee capsules are PVC-free<\/strong>. Capsules painted with PVC-containing coatings pose challenges for recyclers, as environmentally harmful substances can be produced when the halogen-containing coating is incinerated.<\/p>
