This is shown by data that the „Close the Glass Loop“ initiative has now published. The aim is to increase the rate to 90 per cent by 2030.

The volume of glass collected therefore kept pace with the significant increase in glass packaging placed on the market (+4.5 %), which was apositive trend in glass collection throughout Europe.

„More glass packaging was collected in 2022 than ever before, reaching a record level of 12.4 million tonnes, an increase of around 542,000 tonnes on the previous year. The increase in the amount of glass collected demonstrates the resilience and commitment of the glass packaging value chain to increase the availability of used glass for the production of new glass bottles and jars.“

Adeline Farrelly, Secretary General FEVE (European Container Glass Federation) on behalf of the partners of Close the Glass Loop

In order to achieve the target of a collection rate of 90 per cent by 2030, initiatives to separate collection of glass packaging from households and the catering industry further promoted and investments supported. The aim is to maximise glass recycling performance towards a closed loop of glass packaging. These measures and the mobilisation of national stakeholders are crucial to ensuring a sustainable and effective system for the collection and recycling of glass across Europe, according to the report.

The company is delighted to welcome Romania and the Netherlands as new national partners this year, which will further strengthen the network at a national level.
