The re-elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has presented the new College of Commissioners. The Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy will be Jessika Roswall from Sweden.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three members are of particular importance to the circular economy and the waste management industry: Jessika Roswall from Sweden as Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, St\u00e9phane S\u00e9journ\u00e9 from France as Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Policy Strategy and Teresea Ribera from Spain as Executive Vice-President for the Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy. Executive Vice President for Clean, Fair and Competitive Change.<\/strong> All three Commissioners could assume responsibility for the Clean Industrial Deal in the coming legislative period. For the first time, the circular economy sector is named separately in the title and thus upgraded.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201eThe BDE welcomes the fact that Ursula von der Leyen recognises the strategic importance of the circular economy and is clearly raising the profile of the topic. It is not just a matter of mentioning the topic. Rather, the Commission is demonstrating this, that the issues of environmental and economic policy are merging in the field of the circular economy.<\/strong> Anyone who wants Europe to be a strong and modern business location, in which prosperity and (raw material) security take centre stage, must overcome old ways of thinking. A resilient economy with a continuous transition to sustainable production and consumption patterns is the way forward. A competitive European economy is only possible with a circular economy. Climate neutrality is only possible with a circular economy.\u201c<\/p>\n

The BDE warmly congratulates Jessika Roswall on her appointment. Together with the Vice Presidents Teresa Ribera and St\u00e9phane S\u00e9journ\u00e9, she can now decisive steps in the internal market for waste and in the competitive conditions for the circular economy<\/strong> This is the only way to establish a circular economy across all sectors. The BDE and the circular economy are also particularly pleased, that Vice-President Ribera is explicitly responsible for the further implementation of the Green Deal<\/strong> - It is therefore clear that the Green Deal, which is centred on transforming the European economy into a circular economy, will not be abandoned.<\/p>

The BDE is entering this legislative period with ten clear demands. One of these is to not only emphasise the topic by name, but also to to establish an EU agency for the circular economy<\/strong>.
