The cross-industry RecyClass initiative has now confirmed that Avery Dennison's film labels are fully compatible with the recycling of HDPE packaging.

With technology approval from RecyClass, Avery Dennison Corporation announces a market first, as the company's film labels are now compatible with the existing European industrial recycling processes for HDPE containers<\/strong> made from white, coloured and natural plastics. Previously, Avery Dennison's standard pressure-sensitive film labels had limited suitability for the coloured HDPE recycling stream. The company therefore commissioned RecyClass to evaluate various PE and PP solutions from its film label portfolio to assess their impact on the quality of recycled HDPE containers.<\/p>\n

RecyClass develops recyclability assessment standards and scientific test methods for innovative plastic packaging materials that can be used as Basis for the \u201eDesign for Recycling\u201c guidelines<\/strong> for all types of plastic packaging. Recently, RecyClass has amended the \u201eDesign for Recycling\u201c guidelines and the HDPE assessment protocol in order to All steps of the HDPE recycling process<\/strong>, including label removal measures. Avery Dennison supports these newly developed guidelines, which emphasise, among other things, that friction and not temperature is the decisive factor for removability. This criterion is in line with the results of an in-house trial that Avery Dennison conducted in early 2024 in the National Test Centre for Circular Plastics<\/a> in the Netherlands Heerenveen<\/span> has carried out.<\/p>
