IFCO has opened a digital innovation centre in Barcelona that uses IoT and AI to promote sustainable reusable packaging solutions. The aim is to improve transparency, efficiency and sustainability in the supply chain through real-time data and technological advances.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The global provider of reusable packaging solutions IFCO<\/a> opened a new digital hub in Barcelona on 18 November 2024. In collaboration with Tech Barcelona, a centre of excellence for data analysis and IoT technologies is being established there, which will Improve traceability and efficiency in the supply chain<\/strong> shall.<\/p>\n

The innovation centre, located in the Tech-Campus Pier01, develops solutions for Optimisation of transport and cleaning of reusable containers<\/strong> (RPCs). Sensors for temperature monitoring and AI-supported analyses help to ensure the quality of perishable goods, reduce losses and make processes more efficient.<\/p>

One focus is on sustainability: improved tracking technologies enable customers to optimise the use of RPCs, Reduce food waste and achieve their climate targets faster<\/strong>. According to CEO Mike Pooley, the new hub underlines IFCO's commitment to digital innovation and sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n

With 15 employees at present, the team in Barcelona is set to grow to 50 experts. Data scientists, engineers and software developers are working on expanding the company's technological capabilities and strengthening knowledge internally.<\/p>\n

Dr Sebastian Grams, Chief Digital Officer at IFCO, explained that the centre is driving forward digitalisation and Innovations in the circular economy<\/strong> make this possible. Miquel Mart\u00ed, CEO of Tech Barcelona, described the partnership as another example of Barcelona's role as a technology centre.<\/p>\n
