Multivac has been manufacturing packaging machines for more than 60 years. The company, which once started out in a garage, is now a globally active group with more than 80 subsidiaries. CEO Christian Traumann has been with the company for 20 years and has witnessed many of the developments and changes that are currently taking place in the industry. The CEO spoke to packaging journal about artificial intelligence (AI) and the transformation from a mechanical engineering company to a technology group.

β€žWhen I arrived in 2002, we were a pearl, a real mechanical engineering pearl, albeit without any internationalisation, and we then took it forward. Today, we have over 80 sales companies and 14 additional production companies. We have acquired a lot from different sectors.β€œ

When I look at the industry, I see a trend towards system solutions, holistic solutions and line expertise. We changed soon enough and now offer solutions for processing, portioning, quality assurance and end-of-line. Everyone is talking about digitalisation. We are doing a lot in the field of artificial intelligence and are expanding a number of services.
