Nutmeg, turmeric or allspice spread their very own flavour when preparing food. 1001 Spices creates blends from 100 per cent harmonised spice compositions, without additives. The richness of the spices allows them to be translated into a visual colour scale. The Hamburg agency design for human nature has incorporated this colour scale into the design of the new packaging.

The world of aromas and the facets of flavours formed the basis for a new classification of the range: the new spice colour scale. From this scale, which is made up of the basic colours of 80 spices, the designers have derived a stripe code for each spice composition that makes its ingredients visible in colour. The name of the spices on the tin and an „indicator colour“ for the band and lid support simple, quick and, above all, transparent orientation. The richness of the spices and flavours and their complexity is thus directly recognisable to the consumer and the coordination and quality of the raw materials used means that the spices can be completely free of salt and sugar.

According to the agency, the world of colour is intended to bring together natural aromas and human senses, creating the 1001 spice system: An informative brand world that emphasises the art of spice composition in a transparent and comprehensible way.

The common goal of design for human nature and 1001 spices, find packaging that does justice to the natural contents, the Finnish company Sulapac on board and rethought the new packaging for the spices.

According to the company, the material of the fins is completely biodegradable without leaving any permanent microplastics behind. The materials are processed using existing machines for plastic products, which makes it easier to switch from conventional plastic to a bio-based alternative. The new 1001 spice jar is a refillable container made from industrially compostable natural fibre composites, has a long shelf life and is food-safe.
