With the 3DExperience platform from Dassault Systèmes, Metsä Board accelerates the development of packaging solutions by up to 85 per cent. The packaging simulation supports development in all life cycle phases and helps the Finnish board manufacturer to recommend optimal packaging materials to its customers.
As part of the development and testing of packaging solutions at its centre of excellence, Metsä Board is now using the 3DExperience-platform from Dassault Systèmes and thus significantly accelerates development and improves the CO2 balance at the same time of packaging.
The Simulation enables an 85 per cent increase in speed compared to conventional development methods, in which physical prototypes are subjected to a large number of tests. The new technology helps Metsä Board to recommend optimal packaging materials and structures to its customers. It supports development in all life cycle phases, from material selection to delivery.
„Our aim was to increase the pace of innovation in order to offer our customers - packaging and brand manufacturers - the optimum packaging solution and help them to improve their carbon footprint. With the new simulation technology, for example Box crush and drop tests within a few hours be carried out. With the previous physical test procedures, this sometimes took days or even weeks.“ Markku Leskelä, SVP Development, Metsä Board.
A modern solution from Dassault Systèmes and the company's experience in the aerospace and automotive industries has now made it possible to apply the new simulation technology to the automotive industry. in the production of fibre-based packaging to be used.
