ELS - European Labelling System GmbH will be presenting its newly developed OxyScan-inline system for the precise measurement of residual oxygen content in MAP packaging for the first time at this year's IFFA.
The product portfolio of the Werther-based company ELS ranges from electric labelling machines for the simple processing of self-adhesive labels to compact semi-automatic machines and fully automatic labelling systems. As an addition to its production programme, the East Westphalian company will be exhibiting its newly developed OxyScan-inline system for the precise labelling of labels for the first time in Frankfurt. Measurement of the residual oxygen content in MAP packaging.
Accordingly, thermoformers, traysealers and flow-wrapping machines offer optimum application possibilities for the new system. It works - as an alternative to conventional random sampling Non-contact and therefore non-destructive inline directly on the packaging system without reducing the line output. The belt speed can be up to 84 metres per minute. In addition to the actual OxyScan measuring unit, the ELS EF device for Placement of special sensor labels on the inside of the packaging film the central hardware component of the system.
The measuring method uses the fluorescent properties of a colourant on the label. The sensor exposes the label to a specific wavelength. Depending on the oxygen concentration in the MAP packaging, the dye reflects differently. This is detected by the sensor and the oxygen content is precisely calculated using this information. The value is both displayed and logged. Packaging leaks are also detected.
The sensor labels comply with all relevant EU regulations for materials with direct food contact and also have FDA approval. Over 50,000 labels can be fed from each label roll.
At the IFFa, ELS will also be providing information about its various printing and coding systems as well as specific labelling design software. Special systems such as wrap-around labellers for cylindrical products or special machines built to customer specifications will also be on show. Last but not least, the new modular control and operating concept SMT which was specially developed for the ELS 500 series cross web labellers.
