Packaging glass manufacturer Verallia produces its new Vista bottle from 100 per cent recycled glass (PCR), saving around 40 per cent energy during production. The British gin brand York Gin is now launching the bottle in the UK for the first time.
The York Gin bottle is sold in the new glass version Vista by Verallia which is made from 100 per cent post-consumer recycled glass (PCR). This innovation was developed by Verallia UK, a traditional glass manufacturer with over 150 years of experience in Yorkshire.
The use of PCR glass offers clear ecological advantages: No new raw materials are required and energy consumption is reduced by around 40 per cent compared to new glass, as recycled glass has a lower melting point. Greenhouse gas emissions are also reduced. The glass also comes from a regional production only 27 kilometres from the York Gin distillery site, which minimises transport emissions.
Sustainable distillery
York Gin remains true to its distinctive square bottle shape designed by Verallia, which is reminiscent of the historic city walls of York. Previously, the bottle was made from so-called extra-white flint glass, which was produced exclusively from primary raw materials. The switch to Vista now enables a significant reduction in the ecological footprint, without compromising on quality and design.
The co-operation fits in with the distillery's sustainability goals: York Gin produces with green electricity, uses no plastic at all, disposes of waste responsibly and supports local initiatives. In the long term, the company aims to achieve a „net-positive“ business model.
With the introduction of the 100 per cent recycled glass bottle, York Gin and Verallia are setting an example for sustainable packaging solutions in the spirits industry and demonstrating that High design standards and environmental responsibility compatible are.
