Reliable heat sealing is crucial for the shelf life of food. With its Prescale measuring films, Kager offers a simple but effective solution for quality control in packaging - especially for the airtight sealing of film pouches. How the technology works and where it is used.

The Prescale measuring foils from Kager are a testing device for quickly assessing mechanical compressive loads. They can be used to determine whether the applied compressive forces are transmitted evenly and with sufficient intensity in an application without the need for complex technology. In food packaging, they are used to check the quality of heat-seal closures.

When pressure is applied, microcapsules burst inside the film, leaving a magenta-coloured imprint that can withstand strong and weak loads (0.006 - 300 Nmm-2) and irreversible pressure curves.

When setting up machines for packaging baked goods in film bags, it can be used to test whether the force generated in the heat-sealing press is sufficient to produce an airtight seal. If the measuring film is covered with a Kapton® HN film (DuPont™), it can also be used at high temperatures of almost 400° C and sub-zero temperatures of up to -269° C.
