The young German company Vetain, which specialises in vegan protein powders and food supplements, has switched its packaging to Sonoco's paper-based GreenCan solution.
The new can with a cardboard base consists of at least 96 % paper and is fully recyclable in the paper cycle. Vetain is thus replacing the rigid paper can with a metal base that was previously used with a more recyclable alternative.
Vetain was founded in 2021 by athletes Luca Gruber and Philipp Riedl and has built up a strong customer base of over 200,000 consumers across Europe with its range of protein powders, bars, nut butters and toppings. With an annual turnover of around 20 million euros and a team of 23 employees, the start-up focuses on quality, transparency and sustainability as its core values.
Cooperation with Sonoco
The collaboration with Sonoco began in 2023, when Vetain initially switched to an all-paper solution. Two years later, the next step was taken with the GreenCan variant including a cardboard base. „Our packaging had to reflect our commitment to sustainability. The new GreenCan supports this perception - and our customers praise the environmentally friendly solution,“ explained Vetain Managing Director Philipp Riedl.
Sonoco also emphasises the signal effect: „Vetain is an example for young entrepreneurs who want to set sustainable accents with their brand and packaging,“ said Oliver Kock, Senior Sales Manager at Sonoco Consumer Europe.
