In future, dm customers will be able to shop even more consciously: The drugstore chain is visualising the climate impact of selected food products - including plant-based drinks, milk and cereals - and is publishing CO₂-equivalent values (CO₂-eq) for 30 dmBio own-brand items for the first time.
The values appear on the product detail page in the online shop and show how much Greenhouse gas over the entire life cycle of a product - from agricultural production to packaging, transport and disposal.
The calculation of the CO2-eq values together with the impact tech company Inoqo based on international standards (ISO 14040/14044) and an AI-supported method. All dmBio products come from organic farming, and many are also certified by Naturland or Demeter.

For each of the 30 products, the drugstore chain has developed a Individual CO₂ balance sheet created. This information is provided per sales unit and per kilogramme - a practical representation designed to help customers, better categorise the ecological footprint of different products. The values take into account all emissions from agricultural production, processing, packaging and transport through to disposal („cradle-to-grave“). Domestic consumption, for example through cooking or refrigeration, is not taken into account
By publishing the CO₂ values, dm wants to raise awareness of the environmental impact of our own consumer behaviour and contribute to this, Purchasing decisions also from an ecological point of view to meet. In the long term, further products are to be included in the balance sheet. In addition, dm participates in the EU „Choice“ project“, which promotes transparency about the environmental impact of food.
