Siemens is taking the next step towards autonomous production: At SPS 2025, the technology company will be demonstrating how generative AI-supported co-pilots implement autonomous workflows in production.
The Engineering Copilot TIA is a generative AI assistant, which works seamlessly with the TIA Portal. It enables automation engineers to work smarter and faster. All they need to do is issue instructions in natural language, whereupon the Copilot automatically generates and adapts project elements. The beta version is provided as a managed service and integrates seamlessly with TIA Portal versions 19 and 20, performing complex engineering tasks directly in the development environment.
In contrast to conventional tools that only make suggestions, the Engineering Copilot TIA complex engineering tasks independently out. It generates and modifies project elements automatically and takes over time-consuming and repetitive tasks. This allows engineers to concentrate on value-adding activities.
The co-pilot has A wide range of functions. This includes code generation and testing, the creation of visualisations, project localisation and workflow automation. It also supports the configuration of hardware and drives. It also provides guidance and contextual support throughout the TIA Portal environment. Users can easily activate or deactivate these functions depending on their specific requirements.
Siemens is currently testing the beta version together with pilot customers, for example, the machine manufacturer F. Zimmermann. „With the Engineering Copilot TIA from Siemens, we not only save time in engineering - we gain quality and innovative strength,“ says Christian Gaarz, Head of Software Development & Commissioning at F. Zimmermann GmbH. „The AI support helps our teams to concentrate on important development tasks and our customers benefit from faster machine availability.“
