The international industry association Aerobal has once again honoured the best solutions in the field of aluminium aerosol cans with the World Aluminium Aerosol Can Award 2025. The award recognises outstanding achievements in the design, innovation and functionality of aluminium aerosol cans.
This year, the jury focussed on sustainability and functionality. The winners were recognised for their ability to combine innovative approaches with practical solutions. Aluminium aerosol cans are known for their lightness and recyclability. The award-winning designs show how these properties can be combined with aesthetic and functional improvements.
Two winners in the „Already on the market“ category“
In the „Already on the market“ category, two products took first place with the same number of votes: the Hot Black Collection from Turkish manufacturer Aryum and the Pure Range from Gulf Cans from the United Arab Emirates.
The Turkish manufacturer Aryum won with its 200 ml perfume body spray cans for the Hot Black Collection of the Bernard Dimitri brand of the Shaikh Mohd Saeed Group perfume company. The series comprises four designs, each reflecting the character of the respective fragrance. Originally sold in standard tins, the line was changed to 360° embossed tins. The characteristic embossing acts as a unifying design element and allows the individual colour concepts to unfold while maintaining a strong and coherent brand identity. The jury saw the embossed „HOT“ on the base of the can as an original idea and a striking unique selling point.

The second winner in this category is Gulf Cans with its cans for Egox antiperspirant deodorant. The market-leading cosmetics company in Algeria wanted a customised packaging solution for its products. The aim was to create a can that was understated yet sophisticated, simple yet distinctive. The new design for the women's deodorant spray is characterised by clear, sharp lines instead of rounded contours, giving it a modern and unmistakable look. The blue of the spray cap is echoed in the Egox logotype, whose colour variations correspond to the visual motifs of the individual fragrance notes as well as a discreet „NEW“ imprint.

Winner of the „Prototype“ category“
The winner in the „Prototype“ category was an aluminium can produced by Trivium Packaging Brasil for Adidas. The new design project faced the challenge of combining a retro touch with a sophisticated surface while maintaining the clarity of the essential information. A pattern of small dots adds depth to the background, while a special ink ensures the fusion of metallic colours without visual irregularities. In addition to aesthetics, the project also brings significant sustainability improvements. Trivium optimised and standardised the can model used and reduced its weight by 25 percent. By using an advanced aluminium alloy and a process without conventional ingot fusion, CO₂ emissions were reduced by more than 50 percent - while maintaining the same strength and quality. In addition, the internal coating has been reduced by 50 per cent, significantly reducing VOC and CO₂ emissions.

Winner in the „Sustainability“ category“
In the „Sustainability“ category, an aluminium aerosol can from US manufacturer Ball Corporation received the most votes. The winning product is the result of a successful partnership between Ball, Alcoa and Unilever and presents the first ultra-low carbon aerosol can for personal and household care packaging produced using the CO₂-free Elysis smelting technology, combined with 50 per cent post-consumer recyclate (PCR). The Elysis process eliminates all direct greenhouse gas emissions from aluminium smelting, produces oxygen instead of CO₂ and achieves a CO₂ footprint that is around 40 percent lower than that of conventional low-CO₂ aluminium. According to the jury, the project shows how cross-industry partnerships can accelerate decarbonisation and create scalable models for climate progress across the entire sector.

Future trends and challenges
The award ceremony also provided an outlook on future trends and challenges in the industry. The use of aluminium will continue to increase as more and more companies focus on sustainable packaging solutions. At the same time, the industry is placing high demands on innovation in order to meet the growing demands of consumers. With the award-winning designs and innovations, the Aerobal award also aims to show how important it is to develop solutions that are both functional and environmentally friendly.
