With the new scented varnishes from Follmann, it is possible to trigger olfactory stimuli on direct contact with the correspondingly coated area of the packaging. The scented varnishes faithfully reproduce the fragrance previously encapsulated in microcapsules when touched.
This presentation of the perfume not only replaces the expensive Fragrance sampling, It can also prevent potential damage to packaging and product caused by end user testing. The technology can be used in sheet-fed offset, web offset, flexo and screen printing. This opens up new possibilities for packaging design and printing.
Microcapsules release fragrance on contact
With the oil-based FOLCO-SCENT®-In Follmann's scented varnishes, the fragrance, which is identical to the contents, is packaged in microscopically small beads where it is hermetically preserved. The scented varnish can then be printed directly onto mailings, flyers, magazine pages or even packaging material. Only when Touching the painted area the microcapsules are destroyed and the Fragrance released. Tests show that the fragrances are still fully effective even after a year.
The scented lacquers have particularly Good machine running properties, at the same time, the washing intervals of the rollers are significantly reduced for long runs. They have also proven to be very efficient in practice. No additional drying agent is required in sheet-fed offset. However, the same scented coating can also be used in web offset without modification.
Developed for the cosmetics industry

Model Kramp GmbH, which belongs to the Model Group, has developed a Packaging design predestined for cosmetics packaging, which perfectly emphasises Follmann's scented varnishes. The 435 g/m2 strong FibreForm C2S cardboard, which allows exceptionally high embossing. Printed in six colours and finished several times, the folding box is then wrapped in an additional sleeve. The front of the sleeve is embossed with the outline of the bottle and the fragrance varnish is printed in the lower part of the embossing. A Gentle rubbing of the printed surface is sufficient to release the fragrance.
