A milestone has been reached in the tinplate manufacturing process: thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH is now offering a new product with rasselstein® CFPA (Chromium-Free Passivation Alternative) now offers its customers 100 per cent chromium-free passivation on the tinplate surface.
The innovative product represents a Passivation alternative which effectively limits tin oxide growth during storage and therefore offers the same functionality as chromium-based passivations. Through the use of rasselstein® CFPA, customers of thyssenkrupp in Andernach can now invest in a Chromium-free future start.
Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (also known as the REACH Regulation) regulates the use of chemicals throughout the EU. According to this Chromium (VI) compounds, previously used for the production of tinplate passivation are now only used for the production of deployed for a limited period become mandatory. For manufacturers of steel packaging, this means that they will no longer be able to obtain chrome-passivated tinplate produced in the EU.

The European standard EN10202 is currently being revised with the aim of, CFPA as the new European standard passivation to be included.

„In addition to laboratory tests, time-consuming storage tests lasting up to several years are common for resistance testing with a wide variety of filling materials. thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH supports the entire value chain with the Early provision of a chrome-free product. The tests can start now at the latest.“

New passivation impresses with its surface properties
rattle stone® CFPA limits tin oxide growth during storage and therefore has the same functionality as chrome-based passivation. It gives tinplate high-quality surface properties such as a brilliant appearance, excellent paint adhesion, outstanding wettability and very good direct printability.
Extensive tests have confirmed that there are suitable coating systems for previous applications.

„Especially with modern BPA NI lacquers, rasselstein® CFPA at its best. CFPA has a higher surface tension than chromium-based passivations and therefore has a higher surface tension than chromium-based passivations. better paint wettability."
