Every day, 2.5 billion people use Unilever products. Many of these previously pass through the scales of the German company Multipond.

With 400 brands in over 14 categories, Unilever touches the everyday lives of more people than almost any other company. Its production ranges from food and cosmetics to personal care, household and textile care products. Unilever relies on Multipond multihead weighers for weighing a wide variety of products. A new MP-36-400-400-C multihead weigher was recently purchased for the Heilbronn site.

The multihead weigher is designed to be multiflexible so that a wide variety of products, from mushrooms and vegetables to powdery products such as ready-made soup components or ready-to-eat products, can be weighed gently.

The system works according to the partial quantity combination principle. This means that the product is fed from the upper level to a feeding unit, which in turn feeds the multihead weigher. Once at the top of the weigher, the product is first conveyed via the radially arranged dosing chutes into the storage hoppers and then into the weighing hoppers below.

Working without interrupting production

A computer then determines the combination from the partial quantities that corresponds to or comes closest to the nominal filling weight to be achieved. The finished, accurately weighed portions are then delivered to the two collecting containers via the two outlets and finally to the SIG stand-up pouch machine. The calibration systems integrated into each in-house manufactured load cell ensure maximum accuracy and availability. Multipond claims to be the only manufacturer of multihead weighers in the world to offer this solution. The system works fully automatically, continuously and without interrupting production.

With product changes taking place several times a day, it is essential that all product-carrying parts can be removed easily and quickly without tools for cleaning and maintenance.
