With an investment of 16.7 million euros, which is part of the DS Smith Group's normal overall investment, DS Smith is expanding and modernising its traditional site in Arnstadt, Thuringia.

The recent symbolic ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of construction work on the modernisation and expansion of the plant, which will take place while production continues and will cover the next 12 months.

Energy consumption and paper waste are reduced

In line with the new sustainability strategy „Now. And in the future.“ DS Smith's investment in the Arnstadt plant will also significantly reduce energy consumption and the amount of paper waste produced. This will save 154 tonnes of CO2 per year compared to the previous corrugator.

In the first construction phase, an existing hall will be expanded in the course of 2021 and equipped with a latest-generation corrugator. The new plant will have a greater working width and thus offer better paper utilisation, higher speed and optimised performance.

The machine also features the latest safety standards, emphasising the high focus on occupational safety.
