Lidl is now taking the next step towards transparent sustainability labelling of food products by testing Eco Score labelling in all its Berlin shops.
The sustainability level of products transparent at a glance: From Monday, 7 June, Lidl will be the first German retailer to test the following in all its Berlin shops the five-level Eco-Score product labelling on the price tags of around 140 tea, coffee and dairy products.
The food retailer, in partnership with the developer ECO2 Initiativehow customers use the Eco-Score and thus the environmental impact of food and react with regard to their choice of product. With the labelling, the company wants to Conscious choice for more sustainable products This is because the impact of a product on the climate, biodiversity or resource consumption, for example, is becoming increasingly important in purchasing decisions.
Eco-Score labelling under discussion
Lidl will also present its commitment to sustainability to representatives from society, associations and politics at various stations in one of its Berlin shops and discuss the Eco-Score. The company is Open to suggestions for further development or industry-wide labelling alternatives.
The food retailer would like to use the test results to help establish pragmatic and easy-to-understand sustainability labelling for food in Germany in the near future.
