In Hofheim am Taunus, Dienst Verpackungstechnik GmbH is adapting to the digital age: In addition to digital FATs, customers will also be able to carry out SAT remotely in future.
Working from home, remote working and video conferencing have rapidly entered our working world over the past 18 months. Video and sound - meetings rarely need much more than that. A concept for the industry, right in the centre of the factory halls, is not yet availableAfter all, functions have to be tested, settings made and manual work carried out. With a Ukrainian customer, the company Service from Hofheim am Taunus has made it possible: a remote SAT.
"We have around 25 projects a year, all of which go through a SAT and a FAT," explains Wolfgang Lapke, Project Manager at the packaging machine manufacturer. The tests take a lot of time, often a whole working week. An important argument in favour of using remote tests.
Less time lost due to remote installation
Thanks to the modern industrial control system, the technicians at Dienst Access the machine online. This makes it easy to customise the software and find and rectify errors. Communication takes place via video chat - the machine is shown in action with the help of professional cameras. Individual stages and steps can be focussed on and open questions can be discussed directly. Even spontaneous detailed shots in every corner of the machine are no problem, with additional smartphone cameras providing a great deal of flexibility in the realisation.
Most of the systems delivered by Dienst are customised; hardly any two machines are the same. During a test, the machine runs through all the programmes; Dienst agrees the exact sequence with its customers individually. Time is needed for the many format changes. "These time slots are dead time for the customer on site," says Project Manager Lapke. This is where a major advantage of video conferencing comes to the fore: While the machine is being rebuilt, the customer can devote himself to other tasks and issues and loses less time. Travelling to and from the event is also eliminated. "A remote SAT reliably covers the technical issues, and thanks to today's video conferencing options, the human component is not neglected either," explains the project manager.
