Meat and sausage producer Vinzenz Murr has upgraded to Vacuum 4.0 technology. The existing centralised vacuum system now works with the energy-efficient R5 Plus vacuum pumps from Busch Vacuum Solutions, which keep the vacuum for all packaging machines permanently at the pre-programmed level under pressure control.
Vinzenz Murr GmbH has been producing meat and sausage products for 120 years and is now one of the largest butchers in Munich and southern Bavaria. Since 2004 it has been supplying a centralised vacuum system from Busch Vacuum Solutions all packaging machines in the butcher's shop in Obersendling with vacuum. It consisted of a vacuum system with three R5 rotary vane vacuum pumps and a total of three vacuum boosters. The vacuum system was previously operated with a cascade control system, meaning that only as many vacuum pumps were working as were required for the current operation.
With the relocation of the vacuum system to another room, Managing Director Alexander Brandl has decided to replace the rotary vane vacuum pumps equipped with standard motors by frequency-controlled rotary vane vacuum pumps, to be able to adjust the performance of the vacuum system more precisely to the actual requirements. This is because the packaging machines Products ranging from several kilos in weight to small portion packs for the self-service area. This means that packaging is carried out with very different moulds and therefore the volumes of the packaging chambers vary considerably. Due to relatively small quantities, the total volume of all packaging machines changes frequently and, as a result, so does the power requirement of the vacuum system.
Expansion is already planned
The choice fell on the new generation of intelligent vacuum pumps, the R5 Plus from Busch Vacuum Solutions. Thanks to the pressure control, each individual R5 Plus Maintain the specified vacuum level exactly and compensate for changing suction volumes via the speed. The individual integrated primary controls communicate with each other via a higher-level secondary control, the Plus Master Control.
This allows the overall performance of the vacuum system to be adapted precisely to the actual demand. With the converted vacuum system guarantees compliance with cycle times and a precisely defined vacuum level in each individual package. The new R5 Plus rotary vane vacuum pumps are larger than the vacuum pumps previously used, as more thermoforming machines are to be connected to the central vacuum supply in the future.
