Laminating film works without adhesive and heat

Polifilm Extrusion GmbH, part of the Cologne-based Polifilm Group, is presenting a laminating film that requires neither additional adhesive nor high temperature ranges for laminating. The polyethylene film solution is activated solely by corona treatment and, according to the company, can therefore be processed inline on all standard and existing printing and cutting systems, both as a laminating solution and as an overlaminate.

For digital printers, this means a reduction in time-to-market. Adhesive variants require up to 72 hours to cure, the new development can be processed within one hour. This means that orders can be scheduled more closely and costs are likely to be reduced. By dispensing with the adhesive layer, the recyclability of the composite can also be increased.

There is no need to invest in heating plants for thermal lamination, with simultaneously lower process costs due to the lack of additional energy required to reach the high temperatures. Dispensing with the laminating system also has a potentially sustainable effect in that the CO2 balance of the product and the company can be positively influenced.
