Before powders, such as active ingredients and excipients, can be mixed, granulated and pressed into tablets or processed in any other way, they must be available in an exact particle size distribution. The production of high-quality medicines, foods and fine chemicals from fine powders therefore requires sensors that can measure very fast particles with high resolution in real time and under production conditions. However, such fine powders with particle sizes of less than 50 µm in particular have so far posed major challenges for inline particle measurement in granulation.
The experts at Parsum have now solved this problem with their latest inline particle probe IPP 85-P. Thanks to a further development of the fibre-optic measuring method and an adapted dispersion technology, it can reliably detect particles from 20 µm at speeds of up to 100 metres per second in various processes. A new integrated memory module not only enables unique identification of the probe, but also the storage of calibration or log data. For uncomplicated commissioning, the new process wizard also guides the user through the initial configuration of a new measuring point.
