Progress with the Reset Plastic strategy

The Schwarz Group is making progress towards the goals of its Group-wide REset Plastic strategy through the cooperation between Schwarz Produktion, the Lidl and Kaufland retail divisions and the PreZero environmental division, both internationally and in Germany.

The Schwarz Group is making progress towards the goals of its Group-wide REset Plastic strategy. Thanks to the cooperation between Schwarz Produktion, the Lidl and Kaufland retail divisions and the PreZero environmental division, the Group has made progress both internationally and in Germany.

Across countries, both retail divisions reduced their use of plastic for private label packaging by 18 per cent in the 2021 financial year, thereby meeting their REset-Plastic-target of using 20 per cent less plastic by 2025 is getting ever closer. The target has already been exceeded in GermanyKaufland Germany has already been able to save 26 per cent plastic, Lidl in Germany 22 per cent.

Another Schwarz Group project aims to use an average of 25 per cent recycled material by 2025. in the plastic own-brand packaging of Lidl and Kaufland. Currently On average, 14 per cent recyclate is used across all countries. Kaufland Germany already uses 29 per cent recycled material in its own-brand packaging, Lidl in Germany 23 per cent. The Schwarz Group has achieved this in particular by successfully converting the non-returnable PET bottles manufactured by Schwarz Produktion to 100 per cent rPET (excluding lids and labels).

Across all 32 countries in which Lidl and Kaufland are represented, the Schwarz Group Maximum recyclability currently achieved for 50 per cent of private label packaging - This is already half of their target. At Lidl in Germany, 58 per cent and at Kaufland Germany 42 per cent of own-brand packaging is currently maximally recyclable.
