Mondi has developed a paper packaging solution for wrapping and transporting PET beverage bottles that replaces plastic shrink film. The company worked closely with Krones on this project.
Hug&Hold is the name of the new solution that Mondi has now brought to the market. This is a 100 % recyclable, paper-based solution that replaces plastic shrink film for PET bottle packaging.
Hug&Hold consists of two elements that enable the safe transport and stacking of beverage bottle containers. The first element is a patent-pending Banderole made from 100 % kraft paper, that wraps around the bottles to keep them secure. Made from Advantage SpringPack Plus, it offers high tensile strength and can withstand enough weight to contain and stabilise the bottles during transport.
Suitable for paper waste streams throughout Europe
The second element is a Corrugated cardboard clip, which holds the bottles by the neck. An optional integrated handle makes it easy to carry and transport a bottle pack. The design contributes to convenience, for example by allowing consumers or retail staff to easily separate individual bottles from the pack.
Mondi presents Hug&Hold as the first complete concept on the market that offers a strong and stable solution made from renewable and fully recyclable materials, suitable for existing paper waste streams across Europe.
The team worked with Krones together to ensure that bottles with Hug&Hold are fully automated with the latest machines from Krones can be packaged.
Krones also offers options for upgrading existing machines, making it easy to switch to Hug&Hold as a sustainable alternative.
Hug&Hold is currently available for 0.5 litre to 1.5 litre PET bottles in bundles of 6 or 4.
