Piab shows new cobot with high payload

Piab has further developed its piCobot programme with a larger version. The new piCobot L has been designed with the needs of customers working with small industrial robots and cobots in mind. Its high payload in combination with a low overall height enables maximum capacity utilisation.

With its payload of up to 16 kg, the piCobot L is particularly Attractive for e-commerce, logistics and warehouse applications as well as for supporting the lifting of heavier objects in production. It is based on the same technology platform as the original version, i.e. it consists of a vacuum pump unit and an optional gripper unit. The vacuum pump unit is scalable and can be equipped with different numbers of the latest high-performance COAX cartridges. It offers a significantly higher vacuum performance and enables fast movements when lifting heavy objects for high productivity in packaging and palletising, parts assembly or machine operation.

Its high vacuum flow facilitates the use of large Kenos foam grippers that can lift a variety of objects, from single large and heavy objects to a multitude of small objects simultaneously. The piCobot L is also a Platform for customised end effectors - either developed by Piab's Custom Line specialists or by the customer or system integrator themselves. Thanks to the vacuum connection on the underside of the pump, no additional cabling is required if a different gripper is connected.

Automatic tool changer

While the piCobot L enables the manual gripper change and removal of the mould from the pump unit, the requirement to speed up the mould change when needed made an automated process necessary. Because This means that continuous operation can be guaranteed. and maximum flexibility to cover many different tasks at the lowest possible cost.

The most important addition is therefore the optional automatic tool changer in combination with a docking station for additional end effectors. The automatic tool changer is equipped with a lever for locking and unlocking the adapter plate of the end effector. The lever can be opened and closed automatically by the docking station. This allows one gripper unit to be removed from the robot and another to be picked up and connected without the need for human intervention. Alternatively, the gripper can also be changed manually on the tool changer.

When developing the piCobot L, care was taken to ensure that the parts that need to be cleaned are easily accessible. This means that the ejector cassettes can be removed section by section and the vacuum stages can be cleaned as required. The Integration of dust filters also maximises machine uptimes. Thanks to the IP65-compliant, robust pump housing, long operating times are possible even in harsh environments.

The piCobot L will be available from mid-September and has now been presented live at Fachpack.
