Resealable packaging ensures consumer convenience. LyondellBasell and Henkel have now jointly developed new properties for reopening/reclosing. A Henkel hotmelt adhesive based on an innovative plastomer from LyondellBasell is responsible for the improved reopening properties.
Thanks to its composition, the hotmelt adhesive manufactured by Henkel enables Smooth initial opening while maintaining the desired reopening and reclosing properties on trays made of amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) and polyolefins - even after multiple repetitions.
„This is the first time we have used this solution for resealable packaging. Our resealable hotmelt offers processing advantages over standard market alternatives. It is highly compatible with coextruded materials such as polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PET-G). It also offers long-lasting resealability.“

„In addition to the processing advantages, plastomers bring further benefits to the end user,“ adds Stefano Pasquali, Technical Service Manager at LyondellBasell. „One property that distinguishes our plastomer solution from traditionally used solutions, is their low odour. This is particularly important for food packaging. It is also one of the main components that makes the packaging very easy to open and reseal, time and time again.“
The new solution from LyondellBasell and Henkel, which now available in Europe is designed to enable packaging manufacturers to keep pace with increasing consumer demands.
