Writing instruments made from recycled material from the Yellow Bag

Grüner Punkt and Pelikan have developed an ink eraser that consists of 70 per cent recycled material from the Yellow Bag and the Yellow Bin.

In a joint project between Grüner Punkt and Pelikan, an ink eraser has been created that consists of 70 per cent recycled plastic from the Yellow Bag and Yellow Bin. The Super Pirat eco is part of the eco product line, in which the products are to consist largely of recycled material.

"The Super Pirate eco from Pelikan shows what our Systalen recyclate can do: Even contact-sensitive products are possible with it, which are in no way inferior to new plastic in terms of functionality and product safety. And I personally think that the Super Pirat eco looks at least as good as a comparable ink eraser made from new plastic."

Jörg DeppmeyerManaging Director of Der Grüne Punkt

Due to the production process, some plastic components of the ink eraser are made entirely from recycled Systalen PP from the Green dot. This results in a total proportion of 70 per cent recycled plastic in the entire pen. The source material for the plastic is plastic waste collected in the German Yellow Bag and Yellow Binyoghurt pots, for example. The waste is first sorted in special facilities and then recycled into Systalen PP by Systec Plastics GmbH in Hörstel (North Rhine-Westphalia). The Super Pirat eco is manufactured at the Pelikan plant in Peine near Hanover.

"The raw material comes from household waste in Germany, and recycling and production also take place entirely in Germany without long transport routes. An excellent example of how sustainable value creation can be realised in Germany."

Jens KolleckerCOO of Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft

The new eco product line from Pelikan, which in addition to the Super Pirat eco also includes Fountain pen and a colour box made from recycled plastic is now available in stores. Pelikan is also focussing on sustainability in its sales packaging: depending on the product, this consists of FSC-certified cardboard or recycled plastic.

"A functioning circular economy for plastics can help us become less dependent on problematic raw material imports. Plastics recycling has made enormous progress. However, this requires courageous companies to lead the way and utilise new technology. Pelikan is serious about sustainability and I am delighted that we can support Systalen with our plastic."
