Flexible systems for biscuits and bars

Syntegon is presenting its line expertise for horizontal packaging solutions for biscuits and bars at interpack. The new Syntegon IDH forms the centrepiece of the packaging line, which packs biscuits and crackers in trays and tubular bags made of mono material in a flexible format.

The new packaging line works particularly gently thanks to new pick-and-place technology with integrated linear motors. The latter are also used in various feed modules in both lines to prevent product damage during handling and increase flexibility. In addition to gentle handling, the high-performance system for bars on show focuses above all on a high degree of sustainability and digitalisation. The line is equipped with a paper-ON-form forming shoulder and packs bars in tubular paper bags before they are placed in glueless cartons in the TTM1 topload cartoner with integrated lockstyle forming station.

Visitors to the stand will be able to experience the complete pack style flexibility of IDH in combination with an HCS flow-wrapping machine live for the first time. The Pick-and-place solution for handling and portioning biscuits is based on a newly developed technology.

"Thanks to the integrated linear motors, each picker can be individually aligned so that the system can also process random product samples without any problems. In addition, the number of pickers can be increased to up to 40. At interpack, the IDH achieves a maximum output of up to 800 products per minute - and still retains its space-saving design."

This means that the station offers manufacturers maximum format flexibility: it groups and loads biscuits in four different formats - Slug and stacked packs as well as upright or stacked biscuits in trays - into the downstream feeder. At the same time, the IDH, like the entire line on display, is designed for fast and tool-free format changes.

At the trade fair, the FIF feed module is integrated into the HCS flow-wrapping machine and feeds the biscuits to the packaging machine in stacks, slugs or trays. It packs these in recyclable film made from mono-material and heat-seals all formats for airtight packaging and optimum product protection.

Sustainable glue-free cardboard moulding

After packaging, the integrated Sigpack TTM1 topload cartoner takes over the bars for secondary packaging. The intelligent PFI product feed module based on linear motor technology recognises the position of individual tubular bags and feeds them gently and precisely into the grouping chain without the need for additional mechanical parts such as side guides. This prevents damage to the tubular paper bags. The lack of format parts and the overall changeover concept of the TTM1 make it possible to change the format of the entire system quickly and easily.

"With the new lock-style moulding station, Syntegon is further completing its initiatives in the field of sustainable packaging. The box is moulded without the use of hot melt. This not only protects the environment, it also reduces the energy requirements of the system, minimises cleaning efforts and sources of faults and, last but not least, leads to savings in consumables."

Andreas Schildknecht, Product Manager at Syntegon.

For the first time at interpack the new wireless HMI 4.0 a new feature that offers efficiency benefits, especially for large, fully automated systems. It allows operators to control and monitor the entire line via an interface. In the event of faults and maintenance work, they can view all important information and instructions directly and get the line back into operation as quickly as possible.

Synexio also contributes to the optimal monitoring of the systems: The new cloud-based software solution enables the recording, evaluation and visualisation of machine and production data. Syntegon will offer Synexio in three packages that build on each other. The basic "Monitor" package visualises various KPIs and thus improves production transparency. At interpack, Syntegon will be presenting the second Synexio package "Uptime", which can now also be used to identify specific potential for improvement, for example by visualising the most frequent reasons for stops.
