Film manufacturer Innovia Films is presenting its innovations for the labelling and packaging industry at interpack. BOPP monomaterial solutions for flexible packaging will take centre stage at the trade fair.
The sustainable packaging innovations of tomorrow start with the basics Packaging materials that are compatible with the recycling systems and at the same time offer various functionalities for the protection of food and beverages, says Managing Director Simon Huber.
"We are making sure that our entire research and development team is working towards a common goal to ensure that recyclability is at the forefront of our design criteria for products that we bring to market so that they can remain in the circular economy - that's what we want to show our visitors at the trade fair."

Innovia Films will Various films for mono-material laminates introduce. Propafilm CHS, for example, is a thermally stable BOPP that can replace PET in a variety of applications, including retort pouches.
When barrier laminates are required, the Strata range ensures low OTR and excellent seal integrity while maintaining clarity and gloss. "The use of a Propafilm Strata EVOH coextrusion together with a Propacast geomembrane maintains functionality and offers full recyclability in accordance with the latest CEFLEX guidelines", says Steve Langstaff, Business Development Manager.
Linerless applications: New white matt film is presented
The market for food trays made of PE or foam is growing worldwide. These trays need to be labelled - not only to market the product on the shelf, but also to also to provide legally required information such as nutritional information and information on recycling. Due to Innovia Films' improved coating technology, the AWPMatt matt film has a paper-like surface finish, but the film offers all the benefits that a high-performance BOPP label needs for these demanding applications. AWPMatt has good moisture and water resistance and is therefore suitable for labelling products such as dairy products, meat or fish that are part of a wet or frozen food supply chain.
Recycling-friendly shrink film material
A new addition to the range is the buoyant low-density polyolefin shrink film RayoFloat APO, which is suitable for shrink sleeve labels and tamper-evident applications. "The film forms the basis for the production of sustainable floatable shrink sleeves. This makes it easier to separate the labels from the PET bottles and containers in the recycling processto enable the bottle-to-bottle cycle. It also works with HDPE and PP containers, as they are the same family of plastics that can be recycled in the respective recycling streams," says Lucija Kralj, Business Unit Director Labels EMEA.
RayoFloat APO, a clear, uncoated shrink film, is floatable due to its density of <1 g/cm³. The film is also glossy, abrasion-resistant and printable, with a controlled TD shrinkage of up to 75 per cent. RayoFloat is also for a wide range of HDPE and PP containers suitable.
