Medication by mail order is on the rise - and needs to be packaged. The online pharmacy Medikamente-per-Klick relies on an automated solution from Ranpak.
Ranpak today announced that Selbitz-based mail order pharmacy Medikamente-per-Klick has achieved an outstanding level of automation in its packaging process in collaboration with Ranpak. This achievement was made possible by the installation of two automatic packaging lines.
The cooperation with Ranpak involved, among other things, the automation of the picking/packaging process. The German mail-order pharmacy Medikamente-per-Klick was 2004 by pharmacist Karlheinz Ilius, which owns a total of three pharmacies, was founded with the aim of offering its customers the best service and expert advice on all aspects of medicines. Medikamente-per-Klick employs more than 170 people in its warehouse.
Height reduction was the decisive factor
Medikamente-per-Klick is now using an end-of-line (EOL) solution from Ranpak Automation. The Form'it! carton erectors are semi-automatic machines that enable cost-effective automation. The machines are available in three frame sizes (1000, 2000, 3000) with two sealing options (hot-melt gluing and adhesive tape) and up to four magazines, which can also process different carton sizes. They can be supplied with self-adhesive tape, paper adhesive tape or hot-melt gluing.
The online pharmacy has also opted for the automatic in-line packaging machine Cut'it! EVO reduces empty spaces in parcels before dispatch and thus lowers shipping costs. It automatically shortens the cartons so that they correspond to the highest fill level, and then stick a lid on securely.
Originally, Medikamente-per-Klick wanted to integrate machines that seal the parcels with plastic tape. But then the mail-order pharmacy learnt about Ranpak's automatic EOL solutions. Ilius says: „We realised that the height reduction made possible by Cut'it! EVO offered practical advantages. We use a single carton size. Without the height reduction, we would send a lot of air and would have to fill the empty volume with air cushions. This is no longer necessary. We are also very satisfied with the 99 per cent availability of Ranpak's machines and the company's responsive service. That makes a big difference to our operations.“
