Anja Siegesmund is the future Executive President of the BDE (Federal Association of the German Waste, Water and Recycling Industry). The association's general meeting elected the 46-year-old political scientist and former environment minister from Thuringia at its general meeting in Berlin.
Anja Siegesmund will succeed Peter Kurth, who has been BDE President for many years. The 63-year-old lawyer and former Alba board member has headed the BDE since 2008 and took on the role of Executive President in 2009. Siegesmund will take up her new office due to the Thuringian waiting period regulation on 1 June 2024 will take office. She will be the first woman to hold the office of President and the first East German to head the federal association.
Anja Siegesmund comes from Gera, has been a member of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen since 2002 and was first elected on 5 December 2014. Thuringian Minister for the Environment, Energy and Nature Conservation and Deputy Prime Minister of Thuringia appointed. In December 2022, she announced that she would be stepping down from political office on 31 January 2023 to pursue a new career path.
She is an honorary board member of the German Protestant Church Congress and is the designated president of the 39th Protestant Church Congress 2025 in Hanover.
