Previously mono-PE, now paper. Mondi is now supplying barrier paper for the further development of easy2cool's insulated packaging. This should make the cooling solution even more sustainable.
Two years ago, the young company easy2cool launched its paperfloc Eco-Liner bags presented. It contains recycled paper to insulate products and keep the contents frozen or chilled for up to 48 hours.
Before the collaboration with Mondi, the outer layer around the insulating material was made of mono-PE. Thanks to the close cooperation with Mondi easy2cool replace the mono-PE layer with Mondi's recyclable FunctionalBarrier Paper.
Paper retains condensation
With this development, easy2cool's customers can choose to deliver their goods in responsibly sourced packaging made from renewable resources in the form of insulated bags or inserts in a corrugated box. Both bags and inserts have been certified as recyclable by cyclos-HTP and can be easily disposed of in existing paper recycling streams across Europe.
The FunctionalBarrier Paper from Mondi ensures that no condensation - which occurs naturally during the insulation process - reaches the insulating material and could compromise its integrity. It also seals the packaging and provides a strong, shock-absorbing outer layer to keep the contents safe.
Up to 70 per cent cheaper than polystyrene
Marco Knobloch, founder and managing director of easy2cool, says: „We have tested a number of different barrier papers, but chilled and frozen products have very specific requirements and Mondi's FunctionalBarrier Paper fulfils all our needs. Customers using the corrugated box can save up to 70 % of the costs associated with the previous polystyrene box due to the reduced storage space requirements of the new foldable solutions. Another solution in our portfolio is the combination of a Mondi corrugated cardboard box with paperfloc insulation and our EasyAkkus batteries to create a disposable cool box that provides reliable cooling for four days. Perfect for festivals.“
