In the wake of changes in the global packaging market, the Swiss company Läser AG is optimising its processes through digitalisation, networking and automation. The packaging manufacturer now wants to improve its quality control process with the Digital Test Table 106 from Bobst.
From the development of customised packaging solutions to printing and further processing, Läser AG offers its customers a broad portfolio of services. It supplies Branded goods manufacturers in the food, tobacco, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries with cardboard packaging, cut and die-cut labels, shrink sleeves and die-cut direct mailing products.
For more than 20 years, the company has with an in-house developed ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning). In its search for technology to improve its quality assurance, it recognised the perfect solution in Bobst's Digital Inspection Table 106 for folding cartons.
„The solution we were looking for should enable us to further develop our own digital network. And it had to be easy to integrate into our ERP system.“

The digital test bench is a an independent quality assurance system, which was developed with the aim of enabling packaging manufacturers to achieve zero-defect production. The digital test table can be used for both in combination with die-cutting machines and embossing foil printing machines up to format 106 as well as with folder gluers and central cylinder flexo printing machines can be used. The system stands for precision and speed and helps packaging manufacturers to keep their costs under control, shorten their set-up times and reduce their waste. Above all, however, its accuracy helps to avoid expensive and image-damaging recalls. Since commissioning the digital test table, Läser AG has also seen significant qualitative benefits and less downtime.
„We have installed the digital inspection table in our prepress department. It offers extraordinary added value in our work process. We use the system to check all print products before we produce the printing plates - regardless of whether they are packaging, labels or special products. In the past, we worked with a complex foil laydown system and produced 1:1 print samples for each job, which we then checked.“
Tobias Frank, Production Manager and Deputy Managing Director of Läser AG
„Today, we generate PDF files from the finished print sheets and send them automatically to the digital inspection table. This procedure fits perfectly into our work process. By Project the entire sheet assembly onto the digital test table, We can check the internally defined control points and recognise any problems before they occur. If the printed sheets are OK, we produce the printing plates. Later, we send the first printed sheets to prepress, where they are also checked using the digital inspection table. This enables us to recognise whether errors have occurred in the exposure of the printing plates. In this way, we have created a smoother, faster and more reliable quality assurance process.“
At Läser AG, employees from various areas of the company work with the digital test table. This applies in particular to prepress, but also to media technology and the die-cutting department. „The speed and reliability of the digital inspection table means that in our three-shift operation with many unsupervised working hours reduce our downtimes and remain highly productive can,“ says Tobias Frank.
The digital inspection table was developed by Bobst to support packaging manufacturers in quality assurance. It offers a high degree of digital efficiency and integrates seamlessly into existing digital workflows. With automatic, consistent data acquisition the system enables data-based insights and improves quality processes in the areas of printing, print and punch register, creasing, window gluing, embossed foil printing and Braille embossing. At the same time, it simplifies documentation.
The digital test bench can for sheet formats up to 1,300 x 790 mm can be used. It is equipped with three 4K projectors with up to 6 pixels per mm, which provide recordings in 20 MP photo quality of all tested products. The machine is Can be seamlessly integrated into the Sphere human-machine interface, so that the operators can control and adjust the machine parameters directly.
